AWGA 2002 Accomplishments

 

1. The establishement of formal and legal bylaws

2. Successfully wrote 2 Specialty Crop Marketing Grant Applications and was awarded over $147,000 to marketing the Arizona wine industry.

3. Created and executed a highly successful marketing campaign. Results of the campaign are as followed:
A 98% increase in vineyard wine sales for same period as 2001.

A 50% increase in vineyard tourism for same period as 2001.

Development of a new Arizona Wines logo for easy recognition on wines made in the state.

Development and launch of a new Arizona Wines promotional website: www.arizonawines.com

Launched in September 2002, Arizonawines.com receives over of 1,000 new visitors per month form across the globe.

The first "Arizona Wines Weekend Getaway Contest" has created a database of over 600 consumers interested in visiting vineyards/wineries and purchasing.

The "Arizona Wines Weekend Getaway Contest" has created a viable partnership with an Arizona B & B and other area attractions.Our B & B partner has SOLD OUT OF ALL ITS ROOMS as a result of our efforts.

Arizona Wine events have attracted over 20,000 consumers.

Created an organic database of over 1,000 consumers interested in our wines.

The Arizona Wines TV commercial has been nominated for a "People Choice ADDY Award".

Arizona Wines received national attention as a sponsor of NPR's Diane Rehm book tour event.

Arizona Wines sponsor "Rich Dad Poor Dad" Author's book signing event at Boarder Books and Music in Phoenix.

Arizona Wines are subject of two TV interviews and over 10 newspaper and magazine articles.

A new AWGA website has been designed, created and launched: www.arizonawine.org

4. The AWGA has successfully lobbied to have the loan language be revised to regard the $200,000 Department of Commerce loan as a grant with no repayment

5. In December 2002, AWGA officers held a strategic planning session to create goals and plans to further Arizona's wine industry.
These goals are:

To double the size of the Arizona Wine industry by 2008 to 32 vineyards/wineries

To create a location where all information and resources on starting a vineyard or winery can be made readily available for distribution and promotion

To obtain the support of local, state and the federal government in growing the Arizona wine industry.

6. The Arizona Office of Tourism will include arizonawine.org and arizonawines.com in all their outgoing materials and media.

7. Arizona's wines have gained the attention and admiration of not only our local market but also the wine world. The demand for our high quality wines is ever increasing, even with the current surplus of wines in the marketplace. The growth of the Arizona wine industry is moving forward. There are currently several new vineyards being planted in the state, from the Cottonwood area to Sedona and new and expanded plantings in the Sonoita.
